In 1970, the Porsche 917 became the first Porsche to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the overall standings, Porsche having previously won many class victories. Since then, Porsche has won many victories, the 18th in June 2016 allowing him to set a new record of victories at Le Mans.
In June 2016, when the race was dominated by Toyota, the fate was fierce on the Japanese brand which had to give up 1 round of victory. The Porsche 919 Hybrid #2, driven by Romain Dumas, Neel Jani and Marc Lieb, was in second place and was able to clinch the 18th Porsche title.
