Real Model – Rondeau M379B n° 16 – 24h Le Mans 1980
The Rondeau M379 is a prototype designed by Le Mans native Jean Rondeau for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It featured an aluminum chassis and lightweight bodywork, powered by a naturally aspirated 3.0-liter Ford-Cosworth V8 engine derived from endurance racing and Formula 1 powerplants. Three M379B cars were entered in the 1980 race: No. 15 (Pescarolo/Ragnotti), No. 16 (Rondeau/Jaussaud), and No. 17 (Martin/Spice).
On June 15, 1980, the No. 16 Rondeau M379B driven by Rondeau and Jaussaud won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, finishing one lap ahead of the No. 12 Porsche 908/80 driven by Jacky Ickx and Reinhold Joest, while another Rondeau—the No. 17—finished third. Jean Rondeau thus became the first and only driver to win Le Mans at the wheel of a car of his own design, while Jaussaud secured his second victory, following his 1978 win in the Alpine A442B.
Miniature – Rondeau M379B n° 16 Winner 24h Le Mans 1980 1/43 Spark (43LM80)
The 1/43 scale Spark model of the No. 16 Rondeau M379B faithfully captures the prototype's distinctive silhouette: a very low, wide nose, a central glazed cockpit, faired-in front fenders, and a rear section extended by a large rear wing. The Ford/Total livery is accurately reproduced, featuring a white body accented with blue and red stripes, the No. 16 race number, and partner logos distributed across the hood, flanks, and rear wing. The air intakes, winglets, extractors, racing wheels, and slick tires are finely molded, featuring the level of detail characteristic of Spark models at this scale. Through the windows, the stripped-down racing cockpit (bucket seat, roll cage, instrumentation) is visible, rounding out a static model that effectively highlights the legendary status of the Le Mans-winning 1980 M379B.
