The Bugatti Type 57C represents one of the pinnacles of French automotive art of the 20th century. With its supercharged 8-cylinder in-line engine, it combines power, grace and elegance.
It is the ultimate creation of the gifted Jean Bugatti, son of the brand's creator Ettore and nephew of the sculptor Rembrandt.
Designed as a platform intended to accommodate different types of bodywork, it is sublimated by the best craftsmen like Figoni & Falaschi or Saoutchik.
The model offered by the French government to the Shah of Iran Mohammad Pahlavi for his first marriage in 1939 was made by the famous Parisian coachbuilder Vanvooren. It combines the cutting-edge engineering of the Bugatti brand with elegance and refinement à la française and proves to be a perfect example of French automotive know-how of the time.
Every detail of the bodywork is carefully crafted, reflecting the meticulous attention given to the creation of a luxury car according to Bugatti. For example, the windshield, like the ingenious hood, can be lowered and even retracted completely into a partition using a crank.
After a 40-year stay at the royal court of Iran, this unique Bugatti in the world was saved from destruction during the revolution by a passing American.
In 1983, it was shipped to England for a complete restoration carried out by the Rod Jolly workshop with the assistance of Louis Giron, a former Bugatti employee.
Having returned to its original condition, the car was acquired by the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles, which made it one of the highlights of its permanent collection.
