Porsche is in the habit of creating models that pay tribute to landmark cars in its history. This time, the Porsche 911 Carrera Panamericana celebrates the 356 S of 1952, the first Porsche to take part in the famous Mexican Carrera Panamericana race (1950 - 1954). In this competition, Prince Paul-Alfons Von Metternich and Baron Manuel Antônio de Teffé covered more than 3,100 km across Mexico in 23 hours and 18 minutes, finishing first in their category.
To celebrate this event 70 years later, Porsche has created a special version of the 911 Carrera S. The car is finished in a gentian blue metallic, reminiscent of the design of the original 356 S. The wheels of the 911 Turbo are painted the same colour as the bodywork, as on the 356. Other elements are reminiscent of the 1952 model, such as the number 11 on the doors. Inside, the grey leather seats are decorated with embroidery evoking the Carrera Panamericana, with a logo of a vintage racing helmet.
This commemorative car, commissioned by Porsche Latin America and Porsche Mexico, was built in collaboration with the racing team's mechanic at the time, in order to respect the characteristics of the 356 S as closely as possible.
