The Porsche 956 LH No. 1 launched the brand's legendary Group C era by winning the 1982 24 Hours of Le Mans—the revolutionary prototype's debut at the Sarthe circuit. Jacky Ickx and Derek Bell took the lead shortly after midnight and won with a three-lap margin over the No. 2 956 driven by Jochen Mass and Vern Schuppan, completing a historic 1-2-3 sweep for the factory Rothmans Porsches. This victory marked Jacky Ickx’s sixth and final Le Mans win and Derek Bell’s third. Powered by a 2.65-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine delivering approximately 620 hp in this endurance configuration, the 956 went on to dominate Le Mans for four consecutive years, from 1982 to 1985.
