The Porsche 356 was developed from the Porsche "No.1", a mid-engined roadster created by Ferry Porsche in 1948. Erwin Komenda, already the author of the VW Beetle, signed the final silhouette, imposed partly by the passage of the engine at the rear. Many parts, including the boxer engine, were taken from the VW.
Manufacturing quality issues made the commercial debut very laborious but, over time and with improvements and sports performance, the Porsche quickly became more and more popular. One could summarize this car in three points: a fluid line, a constant technical evolution, and a featherweight.
The model shown here in miniature at 1:12 is a 356 A from 1955, and it's already a much improved version of the very first 356, more powerful, lighter and better built.
