Introducing the Techno Classica 2016 in Essen, Porsche presents to the world his exclusive restoring of a 911 2.5 S / T, a car that has both a glorious past and a turbulent history : this former class winner at Le Mans 24 Hours in 1972 has indeed been found abandoned in an American junkyard, and its restoration took the experts of Porsche Classic two full years to complete.

Purchased in 1971 by American driver Mike Keyser, a legend among Porsche fans in his country, it was engaged in the GT class 2.5 in the World Championship of Sport car for season 1972. Soon, Porsche offered the participation of an official driver, Jürgen Barth, who will run with Keyser under the banner of Toad Hall Racing. 12h of Sebring, Targa Florio, 1000 km of Nürburgring, the results keep coming until the 24h of Le Mans where the car, brought by Louis Mezanarie and with the backing of the Swiss rider Sylvain Garant, ended at a beautiful thirteenth place overall and won its class.

After a few more races in the US, the car is sold and knows various fortunes: strong performance in endurance and rally but also various accidents and repairs. Finally converted into a type G, it will fall unrecognizable and sadly forgotten. Until rediscovered a few years ago by a Porsche collector close to Michael Keyser. It will then be repatriated to Europe and pass into the hands of Porsche Classic with the key to a full restoration and decoration of 24h of Le Mans 1972.

This Porsche 911 2.5 S / T, produced only 24 copies and just before the RSR, perfectly illustrates the great hours of racing, when an American amateur driver could go on a European tour with the support of the constructor and other passionates, almost without fuss. Michael Keyser has indeed taken the opportunity to film the adventure, a bit like Steve McQueen in Le Mans, and left in testimony the film "The Speed Merchants" indispensable reference for lovers of motorsports.
