The Volkswagen Type 2 T1 is the famous "Combi" or Transporter; derived from the Beetle and produced starting in 1950 as a versatile small commercial vehicle, it featured a rear-mounted 4-cylinder boxer engine and a forward-control driving position. The "Samba" version (or Deluxe Microbus) debuted in 1951: an 8/9-seater minibus featuring extensive glazing, a canvas sunroof, and numerous windows, designed as a "panoramic sightseeing bus."
In 1962, the T1 received a new 1.5-liter engine producing approximately 42 hp, allowing the Samba to reach speeds slightly above 100 km/h; the 1962 model replicates this specific configuration. With just over 100,000 units produced up to 1967, the Samba went on to become a true cultural icon associated with travel, vacations, and hippie culture.
