PORSCHE 992 Targa
PORSCHE 992 Targa - Overview |
Inspired by the original Targa launched in 1965, the new Porsche 911 Targa is distinguished by its huge rear window and the fixed roll bar mounted behind the doors, which is undoubtedly the most characteristic feature of this version, as it is the essence of the model that was created to be a safer version of a Porsche 911 Cabriolet, precisely because it had a fixed roll bar that was above the heads of the front occupants. Equipped with a fully automatic soft top, the 911 Targa can go to head in the wind in just 19 seconds, which is understandably a treat for its distinguished owners. Inside, the 911 Targa is no different from its predecessors, with a 10.9" Porsche Communication Management (PCM) screen and two frame-free displays on the dashboard. Available in the all-wheel drive Targa 4 and 911 Targa 4S versions, they are equipped with the six-cylinder, twin-turbocharged boxer engine with a displacement of 3.0 litres and two power levels. In the Targa 4 version, it produces 385 hp at 6,500 rpm and 450 Nm between 1,950 and 5,000 rpm. This enables the 911 Targa 4 to reach 285 km/h and, when equipped with the optional Sport Chrono Package, to reach 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds. In the most powerful version, the Targa 4S, power rises to 450 hp and torque to 530 Nm between 2300 and 5000 rpm. In this case, 100 km/h is reached in 3.6s and the top speed is 304 km/h. In both cases, the 911 Targa is equipped with the 8-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox and the Porsche Traction Management - PTM all-wheel drive system, as standard with the PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management variable suspension system, with Porsche Wet and in the case of the Targa 4S with Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus - PTV Plus, which includes an electronic rear differential lock with variable torque distribution, which is optional on the Targa 4. In this overview, I could not fail to mention the most exclusive feature of this Porsche 911 Targa 4S, namely the new "Heritage Edition" special edition, which stands out not only for the fact that it is limited to a production run of just 992 units, precisely the internal designation by which the new 911 generation is known, but also for the aesthetic details that bring to mind the models of the 50s and 60s of the last century, starting with the emblematic colour of this version: Cherry Metalic, as well as the exterior colour of the 911. The Targa 4S is available with a series of white stripes on the body to which are added 5-spoke light alloy wheels, which in the past were only available in Carrera Exclusive Design and which aim to evoke the Fuchs models in their design. As a footnote: since I am enamoured with this iconic version and passionate about PORSCHE, I have all of the edited series in my private model car collection - 1/43 scale - as well as the Heritage Editions, which are like the "Jewel in the Crown". |
