The Lancia Delta HF Integrale 16V No. 1, driven by Miki Biasion and his co-driver Tiziano Siviero, dominated the 1989 Sanremo Rally, one of the most demanding events in the World Rally Championship. This victory marked the Delta's heyday in Group A, where it competed with the best cars of the era, combining lightness, power, and handling.
The Delta 16V was powered by a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine developing around 200 hp with advanced electronic management, coupled with permanent all-wheel drive. Its reinforced chassis and sophisticated suspension allowed it to remain stable and responsive on the winding and steep roads of Corsica and Italy, while optimizing grip in tight corners.
Its 5-speed manual transmission and active center differential offered precise control, and the car's low weight (approximately 2,300 lbs) gave it a very favorable power-to-weight ratio. The Martini Racing livery, with its iconic red and blue stripes on a white background, reinforced Lancia's visual identity and remains an iconic symbol of the rally era.
This victory in Sanremo cemented the Delta HF Integrale 16V's reputation as one of the most successful and legendary cars of the Group A era, paving the way for sustained dominance in the WRC between 1987 and 1992.
