The Porsche 935/78, nicknamed "Moby Dick," represents the ultimate official evolution of the Group 5 Porsche 935. Built in 1978 based on the 911 Turbo, it pushes the boundaries of the "Silhouette" regulations to the extreme: featuring radically widened bodywork, a flattened nose, a massive rear overhang, and a colossal rear wing. These unusual proportions, combined with its white Martini Racing livery, earned it the nickname "White Whale."

Its 3.2-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine produces 750 hp in race trim at 1.5 bar of boost, and up to 845 hp at 1.7 bar for qualifying. Porsche employed water-cooled cylinder heads and four valves per cylinder—a first for a racing derivative of the 911. Weighing just 1,025 kg and boasting a claimed top speed of 366 km/h, the 935/78 was one of the fastest and most powerful race cars in the world at the time.

Car No. 40 was driven by Jacky Ickx at the 1978 DRM round at the Norisring. After qualifying fourth on the grid, the Belgian driver was forced to retire early from the race due to technical issues, specifically involving the braking system and the car's balance. This appearance was part of a very brief racing campaign for the 935/78 before Porsche ended its factory Group 5 program.
