Introduced in the early 1990s, the Volkswagen Golf III GTI continued a lineage that had become the benchmark for hot hatches since the original 1976 Golf GTI. Larger, more comfortable, and better equipped than the Golf II it replaced, the third generation adopted a more rounded silhouette, body-integrated headlights, and a steeply upright tailgate, while retaining the three-door layout that perfectly suited the GTI’s image.
