At the end of 1954, Max Hoffman, the only US importer of Porsche, persuaded Porsche to build a roadster convertible version with minimal equipment and a downed windshield. By the end of 356 (in 1955, when the 356 A was going to be introduced), Hoffman, wanting a model name rather than simply a number, asked the factory to use the name "Continental" which was mainly used for cars. sold in the United States. This name was only used in 1955. Today, this version is particularly appreciated and very rare. In the United States, 1,200 debuts in 356 were called "Continental coupe and cabriolet". For the first time now nearly 65 years, the 356 Continental is reproduced for the first time in quality miniature 1:43 scale.
