Shelsey Walsh Hill Climb in England is one of the oldest races in the world. Hans Stuck, nicknamed the king of the mountain, built part of his legend by beating the record of the climb in 1936, driving the  terrifying 520-hp Auto-Union type C 16-cylinder, and despite very bad weather.

This Auto Union, designed by Ferdinand Porsche, was a revolutionary race car with a 16-cylinder rear-center central-engine overhead engine, supercharged by a Roots compressor. The rear overhang box had five speeds. The front suspensions by pulled wheels and transverse torsion bars were those of the VW and the 356. Similarly at the rear, there were oscillating half-axles.

In all competitions, it has become for all eternity one of the most successful German competition cars, despite an oversteer like madness character, aggravated by the narrow tires of the time and the enormous power available, that only three drivers managed to tame: Tazio Nuvolari, Hans Stuck and Bernd Rosemeyer. In 1936, Hans Stuck narrowly missed his third consecutive title of European Mountain Champion, due to injury, but the trophy remains at Auto-Union thanks to Bernd Rosemeyer.
