The Brabham BT52 was the Formula 1 car entered by Brabham in 1983. Equipped with a turbocharged 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder BMW engine, it produced very high power in race and qualifying configuration and was driven by Nelson Piquet and Riccardo Patrese. At the 1983 South African Grand Prix at Kyalami, Riccardo Patrese's BT52 #6 won after 77 laps, giving Brabham another victory and contributing to a season that saw Nelson Piquet clinch the Drivers' Championship with the same BT52, becoming the first world champion in a turbocharged car.
