When it was first presented to the public at the Paris Motor Show in 1955, the DS 19 caused quite a stir. Its avant-garde design and revolutionary innovations, such as hydropneumatic suspension, attracted huge crowds. In just 11 days, tens of thousands of cars were sold.
It was precisely this hydropneumatic suspension that inspired a bold advertising campaign in 1959. To demonstrate the exceptional comfort of Citroën models, advertising executive Claude Puech came up with a spectacular production: a blond tortoiseshell-coloured DS, appearing to float on water, replacing its wheels with four orange spheres. The result was a hybrid object that oscillated between technical prowess and avant-garde work of art, a marvellous illustration of Citroën's mastery of the elements and boundless innovation.
