Real Model – Jaguar XK 120 C-Type n° 17 – 24h Le Mans 1953

The Jaguar C-Type—officially the XK120-C—was created for endurance racing, specifically the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Built around a lightweight tubular chassis clad in aluminum bodywork, it utilized the 3.4-liter XK inline-six engine with dual overhead cams, producing approximately 205 hp in its 1953 racing configuration. This version also featured Dunlop disc brakes—a groundbreaking innovation at the time—which gave Jaguar a major advantage in endurance racing.

At the 1953 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Jaguar Cars No. 17 entry was driven by Stirling Moss and Peter Walker. After suffering ignition issues early in the race, the pair steadily climbed the rankings to finish second, four laps behind the winning No. 18 Jaguar driven by Duncan Hamilton and Tony Rolt. Car No. 17 completed 300 laps—a distance of 4,041.19 km—at an average speed of 168.38 km/h.

This result contributed to Jaguar's historic triumph, with C-Types taking first, second, and fourth place, marking the marque's second Le Mans victory following its 1951 win.

Miniature – Jaguar XK 120 C-Type n° 17 2nd 24h Le Mans 1953 1/43 Spark (S2944)

This 1:43 scale Spark model replicates the No. 17 Jaguar C-Type from the factory Jaguar Cars Ltd. team, which finished second at the 1953 24 Hours of Le Mans with drivers Stirling Moss and Peter Walker. Bearing reference number S2944, the model is crafted from resin and measures approximately 10 cm in length. It reproduces the C-Type’s streamlined bodywork, featuring its long hood, oval grille, small driver’s windscreen, passenger-side tonneau cover, wire wheels, and the number 17 displayed on white roundels. The British Racing Green livery mirrors the appearance of the factory car entered at Le Mans, where the No. 17 C-Type finished the race in second place.
