The 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 is one of the most significant 911 models in the brand's history. Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October 1972, it was developed to enable Porsche to homologate the 911 for Group 4 racing. The initials RS—standing for *Rennsport* ("racing sport")—encapsulate its purpose: to offer a road-legal car born directly from the demands of competition. Porsche initially planned to produce 500 units; however, the reception was so enthusiastic that production ultimately reached 1,580 units.
Its most famous feature is the "ducktail" rear spoiler. It was the first spoiler to be fitted as standard equipment on a production car. By improving rear downforce and airflow around the engine, it helps stabilize the car at high speeds while serving as a visual signature inseparable from the Carrera RS 2.7. Wide rear fenders, 15-inch Fuchs wheels, and contrasting "Carrera" side lettering further enhance this 911's highly distinctive appearance.
The Carrera RS 2.7 is powered by an air-cooled, naturally aspirated flat-six engine mounted in the rear. With its displacement increased to 2,687 cc—achieved by enlarging the bore to 90 mm—the Type 911/83 engine utilizes Bosch mechanical fuel injection to deliver 210 hp at 6,300 rpm and 255 Nm of torque at 5,100 rpm. It is paired with a five-speed Type 915 manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. In its Touring configuration, the car weighs approximately 1,075 kg and reaches a top speed of nearly 240 km/h; The stripped-down "Sport" version weighs in at around 960 kg and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds.
