The Volkswagen T1 was the very first VW Combi, produced from 1950 onwards. It was quickly adopted as a service van by many brands, including Porsche, for transporting parts, tools, or small-scale racing cars. In the 1960s, it was not uncommon to see panel vans or T1s painted in Porsche colors providing logistical support for the 356, 904, or early 911 models on European racetracks.
The Porsche 901 was the original name for the future 911, used in 1963-1964 before Peugeot forced Porsche to rename the model 911 due to its three-digit numbering system with a central zero. The first 901/911 road and racing models marked the beginning of the 911 line, making the combination of a "Porsche T1 service van + 901" a powerful image of the Porsche world in the 1960s.
