The Porsche 911 Turbo 3.3 (Type 930) is one of the most iconic 911 models of the 1970s and 1980s. Introduced in 1978 as an evolution of the original 3.0-litre 911 Turbo, it features an air-cooled flat-six engine enlarged to 3,299 cc, an air-to-air intercooler, and a KKK turbocharger. It produces 300 hp at 5,500 rpm and 430 Nm of torque, making it—at the time—one of the fastest and most challenging road cars to master.
The 930 is instantly recognizable by its dramatically flared rear fenders, Fuchs wheels, side air intakes, and massive rear spoiler—nicknamed the "tea tray"—which houses the intercooler. Weighing approximately 1,300 kg, it reaches speeds exceeding 260 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in about 5.4 seconds. The abrupt delivery of turbo boost, combined with the rear-mounted engine and the absence of electronic driving aids, earned it a reputation as a particularly intense Porsche that demands great skill to drive at the limit.
The 1989 model year marked the end of the 930 Turbo's run and was the only version to feature the five-speed G50 manual transmission with a hydraulic clutch, replacing the earlier four-speed gearbox. This upgrade significantly improved driving pleasure and ease of use, making the 1989 930 Turbo the most sought-after variant of the first-generation 911 Turbo.
