The Porsche 917 LH No. 3 was entered by Martini International Racing in the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans for drivers Gérard Larrousse and Willi Kauhsen. "LH" stands for *Langheck*—meaning "long tail"—and refers to the bodywork designed to maximize top speed on the Mulsanne Straight. Its elongated rear, enclosed roofline, and massive rear wing make it the most spectacular version of the 917, though it was less common than the short-tailed 917 K.

The car depicted here features its testing livery: a highly graphic purple-and-white design nicknamed "Hippie," created at the initiative of Hans-Dieter Dechent, the head of the Martini Racing program. During the night before the race, green accents were added to the white areas, transforming the car into its final purple, green, and white race livery. Sporting this final design, Larrousse and Kauhsen finished second in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, behind the Porsche Salzburg 917 K driven by Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood. Although this car is frequently referred to as No. 2 in race archives due to changes in numbering and presentation, the CMR model explicitly reproduces the practice version bearing the No. 3.

Beneath its polyester and fiberglass bodywork, the 917 LH features an aluminum tubular chassis and a naturally aspirated flat-12 engine mounted in a mid-rear position. In the 4.5-liter configuration used by the Martini No. 3 car, the engine produces approximately 580 hp and is paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. Despite its very high top speed, the rain and challenging conditions of the 1970 race favored the 917 K, which was more stable and easier to handle.

This 1:12 scale CMR model reproduces the 4.5-liter Porsche 917 LH No. 3 driven by Gérard Larrousse and Willi Kauhsen in its 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans practice livery. It bears the reference number CMR12017.

Crafted from resin, it is designed for static display and features no opening parts. Its large 1:12 scale particularly highlights the very low nose profile, faired-in headlights, front hood air intakes, enclosed cockpit, and—above all—the *"Langheck" (long-tail) rear section with its white rear wing.

This "Practice" version differs from the CMR model of the same Porsche that finished second in the race: it replicates the purple and white livery seen during practice, prior to the addition of green accents to the final race-spec bodywork.
