Legend has it that Porsche canceled the project because the 928's chassis (designed as a rigid coupe) lost too much rigidity once the roof was removed, requiring heavy reinforcements that would have negatively impacted performance. Others say that Porsche was afraid of cannibalizing sales of the upcoming 911 Cabriolet.
