The love affair between Porsche and Lohner ended sadly in 1905. Ferdinand Porsche was now an engineer with a well-established reputation, and his career choice fell on the Daimler company. Daimler was then at the forefront of the modern internal combustion engine, thanks in particular to the work of engineer Wilhelm Maybach.

But it was with designer Otto Köhler and production technicians Otto Stahl and Oswald Kux that Ferdinand Porsche developed, in 1908, the second mass-produced automobile of his career, the 28/32. The commercial name of this model was "Maja," after the daughter of businessman Emil Jellinek, owner of the brand and already the creator of the "Mercedes"—his other daughter—the previous year. Under various successive names, the car would become the flagship model of the pre-war Austro-Daimler lineup. At the time, it was common to personalize automobiles: in December 1907, Archduke Leopold Salvator, Inspector General of the Armies, commissioned the Cerny coachbuilding company to create the splendid 28/32 "de ville" model shown here in miniature.
