Abstract :

Since 1923, every year for 24 hours, day and night, whatever the weather conditions, pilots and teams compete against each other. Whether professionals or amateurs, driving cars of different categories, all have the challenge of covering as many kilometers as possible in 24 hours.

Artist Yahn Janou takes us through the history of racing through his watercolors. More than the line of racing cars, it is above all competition that the artist expresses: overtaking, refueling, curves, in all these scenes his work exudes the tension of racing. His colorful canvases translate power and energy, in a free and precise style, and immerse the viewer in a colorful world, in action.

His watercolors represent the 85 victorious cars and the winning drivers, including Tom Kristensen, Jacky Ickx, Derek Bell, Yannick Dalmas, Henri Pescarolo, Olivier Gendebien, Woolf Barnato, Luigi Chinetti, Phil Hill and Graham Hill.

We also find in his paintings the specificities of the circuit, with its herringbone start or the Dunlop footbridge, but also portraits of personalities who have marked the history of the 24 hours, such as Charles Ernest Faroux, creator of the race with Georges Durand, John Wyer, director of the Gulf team, or Jean Rondeau, Manceau and winner of the event on his creation.

The artist makes us rediscover the 8 major brands that have inscribed their domination over the decades: Bentley, Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, Ferrari, Ford, Porsche and Audi. This superb watercolor notebook pays tribute to this essential race.
