Abstract :

Ferdinand Piëch was the most powerful man in the automotive industry. He is considered a brilliant designer and visionary of technology. But not everyone knows that this grandson of Ferdinand Porsche also has an outstanding place in the history of motorsport. This chapter of his wild, young years took place when Piëch worked at Porsche from 1963 to 1972. And the new illustrated book "Porsche & Piëch" tells about it.

As head of technology, Piëch was also responsible for racing at the time. In this phase, sensational racing sports cars were created. The first creation of the then 29-year-old engineer was the Carrera 6. This was followed by various types of sport that set standards: 910, 907, 909, 908 and the most exciting racing car in the world: the twelve-cylinder Porsche 917. In its final stage, this turbo performed -Giant over 1000 hp.

This epoch, which gave the “Stuttgart sports car manufacturer” three world championship titles, several European championships and the winning of the Can-Am series in the USA, is one of the most exciting chapters in the history of Porsche. Success against competitors such as Ferrari, Ford, Alfa Romeo, General Motors, Matra strengthened Porsche's image enormously. The small Swabian company thus conquered the top level of motorsport, whereas before the Piëch era, the only struggle was for class victories and respectable placements.

The author of this volume is the journalist Eckhard Schimpf, who has kept an eye on and accompanied Ferdinand Piëch for many years. Numerous discussions - whether in Geneva, Tokyo or Detroit, in Wolfsburg, Salzburg or in Sicily - formed the basis for this book.
