The Vincent motorcycles were born at the end of the 20's under the "HRD" sign, when Philip Vincent bought the Howard Ray Davies brand. Warmed up by his experiences with the "JAP" engine, he develops his own engine, a 500 cc single cylinder which will equip the "Meteor" and "Comet" series A. These motorcycles are quite revolutionary in their cycle part: a cantilever type shock absorber at the rear, two single cam brakes at the front and at the rear. In 1936, Philip Vincent develops a Twin by grafting a second cylinder and keeping the same cycle part. The Vincent "Rapide" was born. On the picture, you can see the revolutionary rear shock absorber at the time. This is a C series (so after the war). With 45HP, this bike was capable of a good 180 km/h.
