Real Model – Ferrari 308 GTB4 LM n° 18 – 24h Le Mans 1974

The Ferrari 308 GT4/LM is a unique prototype derived from the road-going 308 GT4; it was developed by the factory for Luigi Chinetti and his North American Racing Team (NART) to promote the new Dino 308 GT4 coupé on the international stage. Based on chassis 08020, the car underwent extensive modifications: a lightweight body (replacing many steel panels with aluminum and fiberglass, plus Plexiglas windows), a lightened chassis, reinforced suspension and brakes, a large rear wing and aerodynamic add-ons, and a V8 engine tuned to produce approximately 300 hp (an increase of about 50 hp over the road version).

At the 1974 Le Mans race, the 308 GT4/LM was entered by NART in the prototype category (Group 5) due to a lack of sufficient homologation for production-based GT classes. Driven by Giancarlo Gagliardi and Jean-Louis Lafosse, the car qualified 38th on the grid but retired after roughly 4 hours and 30 laps due to clutch failure. It returned in 1975 but was ultimately disqualified during qualifying for a pace deemed insufficient, effectively ending its top-level racing career.

Miniature – Ferrari 308 GTB4 LM n° 18 24h Le Mans 1974 1/43 Tecnomodel (TM43-30A)

This 1:43 scale Tecnomodel Mythos replica of the 308 GTB4 LM (1974 Le Mans) captures the highly angular silhouette of the 308 GT4 as modified for endurance racing: a low nose with a front spoiler, heavily flared fenders, a straight roofline, and a rear end featuring a massive "whale tail" spoiler and air vents. The red-and-white NART/BP livery—featuring race number 18, BP and NART logos, and other sponsor markings—is faithfully reproduced, along with specific GT4/LM details such as air intakes, fuel fillers, exhaust outlets, and fuel tank fittings.

Like other Mythos models, this is a hand-assembled, sealed-body resin model incorporating white metal and photo-etched parts for the wheels, grilles, and fine details. Its proportions and the refinement of its components—including the headlights, fenders, cockpit, racing wheels, and fuel and braking system details—make it a truly distinctive piece that perfectly captures this fascinating, if somewhat obscure, Ferrari LM from NART’s history.
