Entered by Luigi Chinetti’s North American Racing Team, the Ferrari 512 S No. 11 was one of the few bright spots for Ferrari at the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans, an event largely dominated by Porsche. Driven by Americans Sam Posey and Ronnie Bucknum, it finished fourth overall after completing 313 laps and covering 4,209.6 km, trailing the three Porsche 917s that swept the podium. This performance made the No. 11 the highest-placed Ferrari 512 S in the race, while all of Scuderia Ferrari’s factory cars retired. Its mid-rear-mounted 5.0-liter V12 engine developed nearly 550 hp, making the 512 S Maranello’s weapon of choice against the formidable Porsche 917s.
