The Ferrari 312 F1-66 was the first single-seater from Maranello designed for the new 1966 Formula 1 regulations, which raised the maximum displacement for naturally aspirated engines to 3.0 liters. Its "312" designation summarizes its mechanical specifications: 3 liters, 12 cylinders. It was powered by a 2,989.56 cc, 60-degree V12 engine featuring Lucas indirect fuel injection, producing 360 hp at 10,000 rpm. Mounted mid-rear, the engine was paired with a Ferrari five-speed manual gearbox; the car weighed 610 kg (including fluids).
On September 4, 1966, at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, Ludovico Scarfiotti secured the only Formula 1 World Championship victory of his career. Starting second on the grid in the No. 6 Ferrari, the Italian completed the 68 laps in 1 hour, 47 minutes, and 14.800 seconds. He also set the race's fastest lap and finished nearly six seconds ahead of his teammate Mike Parkes, delivering a celebrated one-two finish for Ferrari on home soil. Lorenzo Bandini, driving the third entered 312, retired on the 33rd lap due to an ignition problem.
This victory remains historic: Scarfiotti was the last Italian driver to win the Italian Grand Prix at Monza behind the wheel of a Ferrari, and the triumph stands as the only win of his F1 career.
