Real Model – Porsche 935 n° 48 – 24h Le Mans 1978

The Porsche 935 is the Group 5 racing version derived from the 911 Turbo (930), developed by Porsche from 1976 onwards to compete in international endurance and touring car championships. Equipped with a turbocharged flat-six engine, extensive aerodynamic modifications (widened fenders, a plunging nose, and an elongated rear), and reduced weight, it quickly dominated its class and prevailed against numerous prototypes in major endurance races.

At the 1978 24 Hours of Le Mans, several 935s were entered in the IMSA and Group 5 classes, alongside the factory 936 and 935/78 prototypes, notably competing against the leading Renault-Alpine cars. The 935 won its class and finished near the top of the overall standings, demonstrating the competitiveness of 911-derived cars against pure prototypes. The famous 935/78 "Moby Dick" set the highest top speed of the race on the Mulsanne Straight before the chicanes were added.

Miniature – Porsche 935 n° 48 24h Le Mans 1978 1/18 Spark (18S634)

This 1/18 scale resin model from Spark captures the typical silhouette of the late 1970s Porsche 935, with its very wide fenders, flattened front end, and long rear with a large, high-mounted wing. The proportions remain those of a heavily modified 911: a sloping windshield, a compact roofline, but with massive wheel arches and deeply faired bumpers that accentuate its racing character.

The 1978 Le Mans livery is reproduced with its combination of base colors and contrasting stripes or blocks of color, as well as the precisely tampo-printed sponsor logos and race number. The racing wheels, fitted with slick tires, fill the wheel arches, while the stripped-down interior, visible through the windows, reveals the roll cage, bucket seat, and racing-style dashboard.
