The Porsche 917-015 is one of the 25 units built and homologated by the FIA in April 1969. It was created as a long version LH (Langheck) and then converted to a short version KH (Kurzheck). After a successful sporting career within the Gulf JWA team (victory at the 24 hours of Daytona in 1970) Porsche recovered this car in 1972 to give it a second career.
With a second seat installed next to the driver's seat, Porsche used to invit its customers and journalists to experience fast laps as a passenger on the private Porsche test track in Weissach. Making this 917 the fastest taxi in the world! For the story, it was in this same taxi that French President George Pompidou was invited to do his first race expereience on the 24 hour circuit of Le Mans in 1972.
