Real Model – Renault 5 Turbo 1981
The Renault 5 Turbo is a sports car derived from the Renault 5, produced from 1980 to 1985. Designed as a homologation car for rallying, it featured a mid-rear engine and rear-wheel drive, a complete departure from the typical front-wheel-drive production model. It was powered by a turbocharged 1,397 cc four-cylinder engine (a supercharged R5 Alpine engine) producing 160 hp, which, for a weight of less than a ton, allowed it to deliver top-tier performance and achieve remarkable results in competition, including victory at the 1981 Monte Carlo Rally and several wins at the Tour de Corse.
The first series, often called "Turbo 1" (1981–1982), is characterized by a specific interior designed by Bertone, aluminum body panels and roof, and iconic colors such as Olympus Blue and Grenade Red, with a striking blue/red interior contrast. Assembled in several stages (Flins for the body shell, Heuliez for the modifications, Alpine Dieppe for the finishing), the R5 Turbo is now an icon of the 80s, as much for its "wide body" style as for its rally-car image.

This 1/18 scale Solido miniature reproduces the 1981 Renault 5 Turbo in Olympe Blue, inspired by the configurations of the first series (Turbo 1). Made of die-cast metal, the model retains the very characteristic silhouette of the R5 Turbo: massively widened rear fenders, side air intakes, short hood, visually lowered roofline, and the truncated rear end typical of mid-engine versions.
Like other modern Solido 1/18 scale models, this R5 Turbo features opening front doors, hood, and trunk, steerable front wheels, and a detailed interior with bucket seats, a specific dashboard, and instrumentation inspired by the real car, all finished in a blue reminiscent of the period colors. This miniature is ideal for both Group 4/B rally enthusiasts and fans of iconic French youngtimers, perfectly complementing a display case already featuring Super 5 GT Turbos, 205 GTIs, or other hot hatches from the 80s.
