Real Model – Renault 5 Turbo n° 4 "Calberson" – Tour de France Rally 1980
The Renault 5 Turbo No. 4, featuring the Calberson livery, was the first Renault 5 Turbo officially homologated for Group 4 competition (chassis B000036) and was registered in September 1980. It made its rally debut at the 1980 Tour de France Automobile, driven by Jean Ragnotti with co-driver Jean-Marc Andrié, sporting the striking red and yellow colors of the transport company Calberson. Powered by a mid-rear 1.4-liter turbocharged engine prepared by Renault’s Formula 1 department, the car won several special stages and notably dominated the early legs of the race against the Lancia Stratos. However, an off-road excursion followed by an ignition issue prevented it from reaching the finish line—though this did nothing to diminish its status as the foundational icon of the R5 Turbo’s racing history.
