The Story – François Cevert
François Cevert was a French racing driver nicknamed "The Prince" for his kindness and his movie-star looks. Destined for a brilliant Formula 1 career in the 1970s, he died at the age of 29 following a crash during qualifying for the United States Grand Prix at Watkins Glen, the site of his first victory two years earlier.
Born on February 25, 1944, in Paris, François Cevert could have become an actor, but he chose a much riskier path: motor racing. Upon returning from his military service, this 22-year-old driving ace won the "Volant Shell" competition held at the famous Nevers Magny-Cours circuit. In 1968, he won the French Formula 3 championship. The following year, his talent shone brightly in Formula 2 when he won the Reims Grand Prix, beating none other than Jackie Stewart. Impressed by this feat, Ken Tyrrell recruited the young Frenchman to his Tyrrell Racing team. François Cevert made his Formula One debut in 1971 alongside Jackie Stewart. His first steps were a success, culminating in a victory at the United States Grand Prix at Watkins Glen. The promising young driver honed his skills in Formula One and finished second in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 1973, Jackie Stewart's model teammate had a more than promising season with no fewer than seven podium finishes. On the sidelines of the final race of the season at Watkins Glen, François Cevert was involved in a crash during qualifying. This tragic accident claimed the life of the 29-year-old driver on October 6, 1973, a day that has become a day of mourning for motorsport.
Product – Warson Motors Cevert Blue Polo Shirt
This polo shirt pays tribute to François Cevert, a great French F1 hopeful of the 1970s, a Tyrrell driver with a flamboyant style, who tragically died at Watkins Glen in 1973. His image remains associated with the French national blue, Elf-Tyrrell single-seaters, and a natural elegance that marked a whole generation of enthusiasts.
The Warson Motors François Cevert polo shirt is a 100% cotton blue polo shirt with white stitching on the shoulders, a flocked "35" on the chest, and the name Cevert above it to recall his number and identity as a driver. In keeping with Warson's Vintage Racing style, it features a modern cut inspired by period paddock polo shirts, with contrasting details and retro patches, perfect for displaying a passion for historic F1 with a smart yet easy-to-wear piece for everyday wear.
