Nicknamed " Lucky Hans "" to have survived several spectacular crashes, Hans Herrmann is a German driver who has raced in Formula 1 and Endurance for Porsche. He has won the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1970 in a Porsche 917, becoming the first driver to win in his career the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 24 Hours of Daytona.

Starting in the 50s driving a Porsche 356, he took part in races such as the Mille Miglia, the Targa Florio and Carrera Panamericana before joining the Porsche racing team at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1953.

From 1954 to 1955 he was a member of the Mercedes-Benz factory team, as junior driver alongside Juan Manuel Fangio, Karl Kling, Hermann Lang and Stirling Moss at the wheel of the famous W196 quickly dubbed " Silver Arrows ".

With different versions of the Porsche 718, endurance, Formula 2 and Formula 1, Herrmann mark some points in the championships, mainly in the 12 Hours of Sebring and the Targa Florio in 1960.

In 1966 he returned to Porsche team for the endurance championship. After some podiums with the Porsche 906 and other older models, he won the 1968 24 Hours of Daytona with a 907 and the 12 Hours of Sebring associated with Swiss driver Jo Siffert.

Missing the victory of the 1969 24 Hours of Le Mans with a Porsche 908 to 120 meters, Herrmann took his revenge the following year and won in heavy rain 24 hours of Le Mans 1970, victory long awaited by Porsche. Herrmann and Richard Attwood maintained their Porsche 917 # 23 red and white on the track and won with only 7 cars classified on arrival.

As promised his wife, Hans retired from competition at the age of 42 years but continues, still heavy foot, running in races of historical cars.
